"Protecting Nature, Securing Tomorrow"

Environmental degradation threatens livelihoods and ecosystems worldwide. Through tree planting, land restoration, and sustainable practices, GRACE’s Environmental Conservation initiative combats climate change and restores ecological balance. With the help of communities, we work to create a greener, healthier planet for future generations.

Ghana’s environment is under severe threat due to deforestation, illegal mining (galamsey), pollution, and climate change. These factors degrade natural ecosystems, threaten biodiversity, and exacerbate food and water insecurity.

Why conserving the Environment is crucial

Ghana has one of the highest deforestation rates in Africa, losing 3.2% of its forest cover annually due to illegal logging and agricultural expansion.

Galamsey activities have degraded 74% of Ghana's rivers, making them unsafe for drinking and irrigation.

Rising temperatures and erratic rainfall patterns have reduced agricultural productivity by 19% over the past five years.

Ghana generates 1.7 million tons of plastic waste annually, of which only 5% is recycled.

What is GRACE going to do?

Reforestation Programs

  • Plant 1 million trees annually in deforested areas.

  • Partner with local communities to promote agroforestry.

Combatting Illegal Mining

  • Implement community education campaigns on sustainable mining practices.

  • Work with local authorities to restore degraded riverbanks.

Climate Resilience Projects

  • Introduce climate-smart agriculture to help farmers adapt to changing weather conditions.

  • Support the construction of rainwater harvesting systems in drought-prone areas.

Plastic Waste Management

  • Launch recycling initiatives in urban areas and educate the public on waste segregation.

  • Collaborate with startups to convert plastic waste into reusable materials.

What GRACE is calling for

Forest Cover Restoration: A 10% increase in forest cover over five years.

Cleaner Waterways: Reduced pollution in 50% of Ghana’s major rivers.

Increased Climate Resilience: Improved food security and livelihoods for 20,000 farmers.

Plastic Waste Reduction: 20% increase in recycling rates and a decrease in plastic pollution.

The Golden Redemption Initiative by GRACE addresses the devastating impacts of illegal mining (galamsey) in Ghana. This project targets polluted water bodies, degraded lands, deforestation, and disrupted wetlands by promoting eco-friendly small-scale mining techniques, restoring ecosystems through bioremediation and sustainable land management, and empowering communities with alternative livelihoods. By fostering collaboration among stakeholders, GRACE seeks to build a sustainable balance between economic growth and environmental preservation.
