Safe Paths Initiative

"Paving the Way for Road Safety"

Road traffic accidents remain a leading cause of death in Ghana. GRACE’s Safe Paths Initiative enhances road infrastructure, promotes road safety education, and ensures the maintenance of critical roadways. Together, we can reduce accidents and save lives.

Ghana faces a significant challenge in ensuring road safety, with road accidents consistently ranking among the leading causes of mortality. Poor road conditions, inadequate safety infrastructure, and limited public awareness about road safety laws exacerbate the crisis.

Why is it crucial to address?

Road traffic accidents accounted for 2,373 deaths in 2023 alone, with 14,960 injuries reported.

About 60% of road crash victims are aged 15–45, the most economically active demographic.

Ghana loses approximately 1.6% of its GDP annually due to road traffic crashes, equivalent to $230 million.

Poorly designed road networks and a lack of pedestrian walkways contribute to 35% of pedestrian fatalities in urban areas.
